Mafia Wars vs The Real Mafia

Ever heard of "Cosa Nostra" Scott?

That's the name of the real-life Sicilian mafia. Literally
translated word-for-word it means simply "our thing"...

Not very cool huh?

Mafia is much more mysterious, which is why the term likely
became so much more popular.

What isn't very well shown in our favorite mob movies such
as "The Godfather" is how somebody gets into the mafia.

The initiation ceremony usually involved an invitation to
a special dinner where the candidate was interviewed about
his commitment to crime and the family. Upon approval, it
seems that the mafia bosses would prick the candidate's
finger, smear the blood on a saint, and set the saint on
fire in the new members hand, which he was required to hold,
being told that his fate would be similar if he betrayed
the "family".

There is also "Omertà", which is the mafia's code of silence.
If you've seen "The Godfather Part II" you'll remember the
scene where Michael Corleone is on trial and the FBI's
witness from within Roth's organization is about to testify
against the mafia, but one of his relatives shows up at the
trial and suddenly he changes his mind and denies everything.
That's because "Omertà" forbids members from cooperating at
all with the police or prosecutors should they be arrested.
The penalty for transgression is death, and relatives of the
turncoat may also be murdered.

Good thing none of this happens in the game huh?

I hope you enjoyed those little tidbits of information, I
find it fascinating myself.

P.S. No guarantees on how much longer the low price will
last. It's selling faster than McDonald's hot cakes so in
order to keep the secrets safe and keep to "Omertà", I would
pick up a copy quickly if you haven't already.

Mafia Wars Vs Real Mafia Drug Dealers

The game Mafia Wars is a fun and almost addictive game, it's
by far my favorite game to play online. The idea is violent
conflict between criminal organizations, but what about the
real mafia wars in the 20th century?

The First Mafia War was the first high-profile conflict
between Mafia clans in post-war Italy (the Sicilian Mafia has
a long history of violent rivalries).

In December 1962 some heroin went missing from a shipment to
America. When the Sicilian Mafia Commission could not decide
who was to blame, one of the clans involved - the La Barbera
clan - took matters into its own hands. They murdered a mafioso
from the Greco clan whom they suspected of stealing the heroin,
triggering a war in which many non-mafiosi would be killed in
the crossfire.

In April 1963, several bystanders were wounded during a shootout
in Palermo. In May, Angelo La Barbera survived a murder attempt
in Milan. In June, six military officers and a policeman in
Ciaculli were killed while trying to dispose of a car bomb.

The fact that the conflict spread outside Sicily and claimed
innocent lives provoked national outrage and a crackdown in
which nearly 2,000 arrests were made. Mafia activity fell as
clans disbanded and mafiosi went into hiding. 117 suspects
were put on trial in 1968, but most were acquitted or
received light sentences.

Our online gaming is, of course, not meant to be disrespectful
to people who lost their lives due to organized crime, but
it's impossible to deny that there is something attractive to
the 'mafioso' lifestyle.
