Training Your Cat- Scratching

Kelly Braid has come out with a new ebook called "Purrfectly Trained Cat". Over the next few days she will share with us some or her secrets.

Today, I want to talk about why cats scratch, and how you can redirect the scratching to more appropriate objects.

Cats scratch because they need to. It's an instinctive behavior and we cannot stop it from happening. Your cat scratches for three reasons:

- To mark his territory-not only leaving visible marks but more
importantly, his scent from the glands in his paws. This scent
although indiscernible to us, is very distinctive to other animals
and marks the area as his.

- Exercise-to sharpen his claws so he can defend himself, as well
as stretch and flex his body.

- Pleasure-it just feels good

It is important to find objects that are appealing for your cat to scratch to draw him away from things like your furniture. First, you need to check out what he is scratching now. Look at the texture and sturdiness of the object and then try to replicate it.

Examples of things cats like to scratch include corrugated cardboard, carpeting, or even a chunk of a tree. It is also important to make sure the new scratching post is sturdy and has a stable base. If it falls loudly to the floor or on your cat, it will be worthless.

The new scratching post must now be placed next to object he previously scratched.

The next step is to make the old objects undesirable to him. This may involve covering the areas with things like aluminum foil, plastic, sandpaper, double sided tape, or plastic carpet runner with the pointy side facing out.

Now you will begin to gradually move the new scratching post to an area more suitable to you, but keep in mind it has to be somewhere kitty frequents as well. Putting it near where he sleeps is a great idea as he will always scratch shortly after waking up. If you put the post somewhere he rarely goes, he will return to the old object as soon its available.

After a few weeks, you can start removing the undesirable objects that are covering his former scratching areas. Remove one at a time and wait a few days to see how he does. If he goes back to the old object, just recover it for a bit longer as you are going to fast for him.

A few tricks to get him to use the new post include rubbing catnip on it or pulling a string toy over it to get him used to playing with it.

If you don't follow these vital (but easy) steps, you'll continue to get the same results...more shredded furniture and more spending money.

If you use the easy methods laid out for you, both you and your cat will live a much happier more harmonious life together.

Period.

And that's not just a promise, it's a guarantee.

In fact, try out the methods in my eBook for sixty days.

If your cat isn't the best behaved cat in the neighborhood, just let me know and I'll give you ALL of your money back.

And YOU CAN KEEP THE ENTIRE EBOOK FOR FREE.

No tricks, no gimmicks, no B.S.

If you're serious about keeping your cat happy....and fixing his bad behaviors for good ones, then you'll want to put the information in the eBook to work for you right now.

Google Adwords Can Make You Rich

More in the series by Wade Winger on how you can make money using Google and Clickbank.

In the last few posts, you have learned about affiliate programs and about ClickBank.

With ClickBank, you have access to thousands of affiliate products to market. Now it's time to find a place to market those products and start making some profits.

This is were Google and Google AdWords come into play.

What are Google AdWords?

Google AdWords are little advertisements displayed on Google. These advertisements appear on the right hand side of the browser every time a search is done on the Google search engine.

Anybody including you and I can purchase advertisements on Google.

How do Google AdWords Work?

Google AdWords uses the pay-per-click method.

Pay-per-click just means that the advertisers pay a predetermined amount of money every time someone clicks on their advertisement.

For Google, advertisers bid to have their ads shown when a specific search term is entered.

The higher the bid the higher on the page the ad will show. Being at the top of the page will get you more clicks than ads lower on the page.

Advertisers bid anywhere from $0.05 to $50 per click. That click sends the Internet surfers to a website address of the advertisers choosing.

The thing that makes this advertising method superior over other methods is that your ad will only be shown to people that are interested. It is a very targeted method that leads to more sales.

Let's say that you are selling flowers. You would bid on the search term "flowers". When somebody does a search on Google for the term "flowers", your ad will appear.

On the other hand, when someone does a search for the term "dogs", your ad will not appear because you did not bid on that search term.

You get to decide which search terms are relevant to your campaign
and bid on that search term.
What is so special about Google AdWords? Simply put Google AdWords are better than any other advertising method on the Internet. The second you put up a Google AdWords ad your will start to see results.

Here are some of the reasons that make Google AdWords superior:

- Google boasts over 200 million searches per day

- It only takes fifteen minutes for your ads to appear

- You only need a minimum of $5 to open an account

- The traffic you get from Google is of very high quality

- AdWords is simple to use and beginners can catch on fast

- AdWords is perfect for testing potential ad campaigns

Granted, there are tons of places to market your affiliate programs on the Internet. But in my experience, Google AdWords has brought me more sales than all of the others combined.

To Your Success,

Adwords - 5 Biggest Mistakes

We have created a list of the top 5 mistakes that you should avoid when working with Adwords.

(1) Don't Bid Too High
Unless you have predetermined data that indicate that a high bid will return an positive ROI, we recommend that you keep your bids fairly low. You may not receive high amounts of traffic within very competitive niches, but you will able to collect CPC and conversion data before getting yourself in too deep.

(2) Generalized Keywords

General search terms can suck up a lot of adspend without producing any conversions. People that are searching very broad terms like "dog, money, flowers, and phones" are likely not to buy as there are still in the research phase of the buying lifecycle.

(3) Small Daily Budget
If you set your daily budget too low your ad will not get served. Google has its own calculation where it determines the average volume of traffic, and then takes your daily budget and then serves your ad accordingly. If your budget is too low, you will not even show up within Google's sponsored listings.

(4) The Evil Content Network

Probably the most common mistake people make is using the content network. Unless you have great experience, you should avoid the content network at all expenses. When you create a new campaign, the content network will be turned on by default. You can incur large amounts of adspend within the content network very quickly, and the quality of the traffic from content is not near the quality of search traffic.

(5) Destination URL = Affiliate ID

Many new advertisers do not understand how they will get credited for a sale, and do not use their affiliate linking code as the destination URL (when direct linking to merchant). This means that this advertiser will not get credit for any sale, thus giving the merchant "free" traffic. Make sure you include your affiliate code in the destination URL or you will not get credited for sales.
These are just some of the mistakes that can be made as an advertiser at Google. We outline these mistakes as well as others in detail within Beating Adwords. The difference between a marketer who becomes successful online and one who does not can come down to the mistakes that one makes. Some people cannot afford to waste their money on mistake ridden Adwords campaign, therefore are taken out of the Internet marketing game as soon as they make a few.

Genealogy -The Family Group Sheet

In the last lesson, you learned what a pedigree chart is and how to use it properly. In this lesson, you learn about the second most important document you'll produce from your studies: the family group sheet.

Where the pedigree chart focuses on an individual's history, the Family Group Sheet spotlights an entire family (not surprisingly, considering its name!). This particular tool provides a space for a couple and their children. It also contains fields to record the birth, marriage, death and locations of burial for each member.

Many of these sheets also allow you space to record the spouse's name and the name of each child. It's also valuable because this document allows you to record comments about family members or documents you've uncovered.

As you progress with your research, you'll discover just how valuable a tool this document is. This sheet allows you to include information not only on the individuals, but on the children of your ancestors - and their spouses. If your pedigree is a portrait of your life, then consider the family group sheet a wide-angle photograph of your family.

When you have difficulty locating a birth certificate on a specific ancestor, turning to this sheet and checking on his/her sibling may yield more clues. Knowing something about a missing ancestor's brother or sister, at least gives you a starting point in looking for some of the necessary documentation to confirm his membership in your family.

In Tip #6, I'll explain the difference between a primary and secondary source. This comes in handy when it's time to start documenting your research. Until then, I'd like to leave you with another fact from my file, Which President is Related to Whom?

The eighteenth president of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant (gotta love a president whose initials are U.S.!) was seventh cousin of Millard Fillmore! And despite that, he still got elected president! Imagine that!

Why Home Brewing Is The Best Option

For centuries, families have been making their own homemade beer and wine. Sure, there have been professionals that have sold their own products, but for the most part, the skills and knowledge needed to make beer or wine at home were passed down from generation to generation, just like recipes for bread or the skills it took to make furniture or horse-drawn wagons.

If you're someone that's been brewing beer on your own for some time, or know someone else that has and that can teach you the "ins and outs" of the process, then you have an advantage over those just starting out. However, what if you are a "newbie" to the hobby? What to do? Where to begin?

Some people are very adventurous and experimental, and can easily rig up their own brewing equipment with some things they have around the house, or understand the process enough to create their own little brewery with bits and pieces they can buy.

But for others, you might want to opt for a homebrew kit, easily available from your local homebrew supply store.

Why opt for a kit? There are a few reasons. One is that while home brewing is a very simple an easy to learn hobby, there is still some science involved in the process. If, for example, you fail to attach an airlock to your fermentation container or don't do it properly, air can get into your mix and ruin it completely. Or, if you use the wrong type of pail for your fermentation container, you can ruin the flavor of it when the plastic or plastic coating sits against the mixture for so long.

Many homebrew kits also come with a good sample of ingredients and beer yeast; obviously these are very important for your recipes as well.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy things all together in one package than it is to pick and choose them individually. This is typically true of beer kits. You can find each item that you need individually, but often a kit is cheaper when you add up the prices of each of these items.

And of course kits are just easier for someone starting out. There's no guesswork as to how to affix an airlock or as to whether or not the fermentation container is going to work properly. These kits come with easy to follow, step by step instructions. Once you've gotten used to the process of home brewing you can step out on your own and try other products, but for the beginner, a home brew kit may be your absolute best option.

Get Your Partner To Agree To Relationship Counseling

Relationship counseling is often a last resort for couples on the brink of the divorce. But some couples try counseling early on when the first problems rear their heads. Counseling is certainly something that a couple shouldn’t be afraid to try, even if the problems are relatively minor. Often, catching small problems early with counseling can prevent bigger problems down the road. Early counseling can even something prevent a future divorce.

Today’s couples seem more eager to try to new things, which makes counseling a good option. Couples married years ago seem less likely to go for counseling or try new approaches, perhaps because it wasn’t something commonly done when they were younger. Very often marriages of 30 or 40 years now end in divorce, which is a shame because they’ll never know if relationship counseling could have helped save the marriage.

If you feel like you need relationship counseling, be sure to as your partner to go to counseling with you in a non-judgmental way. If you ask him or her to go to counseling in such a way as it seems like you are accusing them of being the problem and needing counseling, you’re likely to encounter resistance to the idea. Try to make it clear that you want the counseling for yourself if nothing else.

If you ask your partner to go to counseling because you have some issues you need to work on, they’re more likely to view the idea favorably. Explain that you think you need some help to be able to contribute more to the relationship, and to learn how to be a better partner or spouse. Don’t accuse the other person of need counseling. Even if you believe that they are most of the problem, don’t say so. Once you’re in relationship counseling, they will learn tips and techniques for being better within the relationship, just as you will.

Don’t be afraid to suggest relationship counseling, whether you’ve been in the relationship for 3 months, 3 years or two decades. It’s never too late to try counseling to resolve problems. And it’s never too late to try to keep small problems from becoming big ones. If the relationship is relatively new, you might think that you’re admitting to problems and admitting that the relationship is rocky by suggesting counseling. But that’s not true. But facing any obstacles now, you’re making the relationship stronger in the long run.

If your partner believes that your suggestion of relationship counseling means that the relationship isn’t perfect, and maybe even is doomed, calmly explain that that isn’t true. Just because you’re willing to admit that everything is perfect shows that you’re willing to make necessary changes to keep the other person and yourself happy.

If your partner refuses, go on your own. While the counseling would work best if both of you go, you can go and work on things to improve yourself. If your partner sees you going to relationship counseling, they’re more likely to give it a try.
